Belsize Wood Local Nature Reserve
History
Belsize Wood Local Nature Reserve is a small woodland nature reserve located between the Russell Nurseries Estate, off Haverstock Hill, and Lawn Road, NW3. It is on land now owned by the London Borough of Camden. The land used to belong to British Rail and a railway tunnel runs underground.
It was leased to John Russell (Hampstead) as a nursery garden and other uses, later becoming divided between a housing estate (Russell Nurseries Estate), tennis courts, open space woodland and the fenced off nature reserve. It now has earned Local Nature Reserve status.
